ADIDAS LAUNCHES CAMPAIGN AROUND SOUTH AFRICA-NEW ZEALAND RUGBY TOUR
Seven matches. That is the operational scope of the 2026 All Blacks Tour of South Africa, beginning this August with an opening fixture against the DHL Stormers before moving into three Test matches between South Africa and New Zealand. Adidas has built its “Greatness Collides” campaign around the full arc of that schedule, framing the rivalry as one of sport’s defining narratives and positioning the tour as a centerpiece moment for both rugby programs.
The campaign centers on a cinematic film featuring athletes from both nations. South African players Damian Willemse and Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu appear alongside rugby legend Jean de Villiers, while New Zealand’s Beauden Barrett and Ruben Love feature with legend Dan Carter. The production moves deliberately past the 80 minutes of play, grounding the rivalry in backyards, neighborhoods and communities rather than elite competition alone.
Tom Brown, Senior Brand Director for adidas South Africa, described the intent plainly. “Greatness Collides celebrates what happens when two rugby powerhouses meet,” Brown said. “It’s about the communities, traditions and players that have shaped this rivalry for generations, while showcasing adidas’ unique connection to both teams and the fans who live every moment with them.”
That connection is structural, not incidental. Adidas holds the distinction of being the sole global sports brand with official partnerships across both South African and New Zealand rugby operations, a dual positioning that allows it to operate across what would otherwise be opposing competitive interests. The brand frames its role as a connector of the sport itself rather than an advocate for either nation.
Merchandise forms a concrete delivery component of the rollout. The adidas x New Zealand Rugby All Blacks Collection was created specifically to commemorate the 2026 tour, offering leisurewear options including men’s and women’s tees, quarter-zips, pants and shorts, alongside official match and training apparel. Adidas says the collection was engineered using player insights to accommodate the physical demands of elite rugby.
The New Zealand Leisurewear Collection sits within a broader adidas Rugby Fanwear range, designed to give supporters ways to display allegiance both on match days and in everyday settings. The wider fanwear offering extends beyond the All Blacks collection, providing multiple product avenues tied to the tour.
By contrast, distribution is straightforward. Products are available through selected adidas retail locations, wholesale partners and the brand’s online platform at adidas.co.za/rugby. The cinematic hero film is accessible on adidas’ YouTube channel.
The campaign’s cultural framing, rooted in grassroots engagement and mutual respect between two rugby nations, sets up a question that the tour itself will eventually answer: whether the on-field intensity of three Test matches lives up to the weight adidas has placed on the rivalry’s story.
